My creative niece

A couple of weeks ago, the Widholms came over to our house for a visit and Maya saw a shower gift we got from one of our friends which included an adorable lion rattle. A little later we were all downstairs and she wanted to draw to I gave her some paper and colored pencils and she proceeded to recreate the rattle she had briefly seen:

How adorable is that? I am so impressed with her skills, especially for a first grader! I'm sorry my phone cut off her flourishes by her signature:)

Grimm fairy tales illustrated by David Hockey

About a month ago, we went on an awesome walk through the neighborhood that culminated with some frozen yogurt and a trip to Quimby's, one of my favorite book stores in the city. I have a huge love for children's books and we actually saw an exhibit of David Hockney's etching illustrations from this book while we were on our honeymoon in Portugal last year. At the time I couldn't find any books or reproductions of the images. Needless to say, I was so excited to find this book!
